I love shopping for clothes and always seem to end up with to many of the plastic pant hangers! It always seems that the kids out grow pants and the new ones come with the hanger and same thing for my husband and I! Over the years I have had extras of these hangers just hanging on the rack in the laundry room! Recently I decided to find other ways to put these to use instead of them just hanging out doing nothing!
How To Repurpose Plastic Pants Hangers:
- Use to hang your cookbook or recipe in the kitchen!! If you are a messy cook this will help protect the recipe!
- Use as a book or magazine holder while working out on the treadmill.
- Break off the clip part (clear plastic ones tend to break off easier) to use as a clip chip, sugar bag clip, cereal clip etc in the kitchen instead of buying clips at the store.
- Hanging table clothes or other table linens for storage to free up drawer space in the kitchen.
- Use as a clothes pin to hang dry laundry on a clothesline or a rod.
- Use in the closet to hang belts and scarves to organize.
- Clip together wrapping paper or tissue paper for storage.
- Use to hang dry wet kids art work.
- Use to clip together cables for storage or organization of cords behind a desk or furniture!
What are your favorite ways to use repurpose plastic pants hangers in your house?

I liked your article on repurposing pants hangers. I read something the other day that had a list of tips for repurposing or using other items for things they weren’t originally made to be used for. One tip that was really ingenious was what to do if your sink wasn’t big enough to put a bucket under the faucet to fill the bucket with water. They suggested using a clean dust pan and to put the pan part under the running faucet and let the water run out thru the hollow handle down into the bucket. It looked lie it would work very well. I had always just put the bucket into the bathtub to fill it up, but th older I get the harder it becomes to lift thse full bucket up and over the side of the tub.
Great ideas! I have tons of these hanging out in the laundry room because I can never think of anything to do with them, but can’t bring myself to throw them away. I’m going to try the recipe holder idea right away!
I have a very small kitchen. So I do this all the time. I stepped it up though. I often print recipes. A piece of paper fits nicely in a large zippered plastic bag. Then that gets hung in the pant hanger. That way I can place 2 sheets of paper back to back (if the recipe is that long.) I can also handle the pages with out getting them dirty. My most recent? is to put my cell phone in the bag so I can watch recipes that are videos. Once again the plastic bag protects the phone from getting dirty.
