My son is engaged and his bride to be has agreed to write a few wedding posts, enjoy!
I am engaged and now it’s my turn to pop the question! Bridesmaid Proposal Boxes have to be my top priority, so the wedding planning can begin! Pinterest can be a fantastic resource; it can also be an endless rabbit hole of seemingly impossible ideas. When I got engaged, one of the very first things I thought of was my bridal party! My sisters, my best friend, and my sister-to-be, have all been a HUGE part of my life; they’ have seen me through thick and thin and they, more than anyone, have been waiting for this day for the last three years. I knew that they’d be expecting a grand proposal from me…they all know me too well to think I’d just call them up and say “oh, hey, want to be in my wedding?” I had to make it special.
Enter: Pinterest. I scoured the boards for ideas on “how to propose to your bridesmaids”; finding nothing that fit what I needed perfectly, I decided to create my own design which embraced the rustic chic theme I had settled upon. The boxes were easy, they came premade from Michaels for $.79 and they’re the perfect container, both the size and the color fit perfectly for me. The lace ribbon also came from Michaels but was a bit more frustrating (i.e. my first two bridesmaids had to give me back the lace ribbons) it was about $4 which is fine, but there was only enough to wrap two of the boxes, my advice is make sure you know how much is on your spool before you leave the store!
The contents of the boxes were a bit more difficult to sort out. I knew I wanted to stick with some ideas that I wanted to incorporate into the wedding so I took that idea and ran with it.
I stopped at my local Walmart store and picked up some simple paint swatches that roughly matched my wedding colors; I also picked up some metal rings in the scrap booking aisle. I stopped in the photo center and printed out a few quick (and cheap) photos, I chose a photo for each bridesmaid of a memorable moment between the two of us!
From Michaels I grabbed four $.50 miniature photo frames, these are perfect because I want my table numbers to be in a similar, vintage type, frame and they were the perfect size for the box! I also picked up a pack of vintage keys, they’re metal and meant for scrap booking but they symbolize how each of these ladies have been the key to different parts of my life. At one point or another they were the only person in the world who could help me and I wanted to make sure they knew how much I appreciated them!
Next, I went back to my Pinterest boards and printed out some of the ideas that had inspired me; I hole-punched these ideas and my color swatches and used the metal rings to make a tiny flip book for each of my ladies. I also went online and found a free printable with a vintage bicycle and “will you be my bridesmaid/maid of honor”! At http://bit.ly/1d7tDnx there are several customizable bridesmaids’ cards! I chose my colors, printed the cards out on matte photo paper and trimmed them down to size. For the definition cards, (attached to the lid of the box with photo mounting squares) I also used matte photo paper.
I wanted the boxes to feel like they were really personalized so I went ahead and typed up a short note to each of my maids and added it to their box. I chose a few small gifts that were specific to each of my ladies to include as well. For my maid of honor I included the same items only with the different question card. Her box was slightly larger because her personalized items didn’t fit in the square box; however the idea of a different box for my MOH was always in the back of my mind. They have the hardest job so they should get to stand out a little bit, in my opinion!
Each box was also sporting a Ring Pop. I liked the idea of “popping the question” to my bridesmaids, because in all honesty, they don’t have to say “yes” to 13 months of grueling indecisiveness, maddening bridezilla attacks, and countless weekend planning sessions. They have a choice, just like I did, and I respect that choice! Of course when presented with such a heartfelt display and a deliciously flavored diamond ring, they all caved and said “YES!”
Finally, I finished up the boxes by assembling everything. I stuck the definition cards in, attached the question cards to the bottom of the boxes (the idea being that they’d get through all the contents and be presented last with a ring and a question), and loaded in the contents (by whatever means necessary)! I tied the lace on and it looked lovely with a loose bow and very little fuss! I will say this, mark your boxes or you’ll be opening them to find out who is supposed to get each box!
