Frugal Homemade Bug Repellent
There is nothing more irritating in the warm summer months than being bitten by insects while outside trying to enjoy the sunshine with your kids. This Frugal Homemade Bug Repellent is one of our favorite frugal tips for the summer. Not only will it give you a much safer option to get rid of the pesky bugs, it can often be a much more frugal choices. We love this creamy repellent because it goes so much farther than sprays and oils typically do.
FRUGAL HOMEMADE BUG REPELLENT
- 1 Cup Coconut Oil
- 15 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
- 15 Drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- 15 Drops Basil Essential Oil
- In a small bowl, combine coconut oil and essential oils until well blended.
- For easier application, you may choose to beat coconut oil mixture until light and airy.
- Apply thin layer to exposed skin before going outdoors.
This easy to make and light frugal homemade bug repellent is not only great for protecting your skin, it is also super moisturizing without feeling thick and heavy. Coconut oil is a great carrier oil for essential oils. While the up front cost of essential oils may be a bit pricey, over the course of the year you will find the breakdown to be much less than had you purchased traditional bug repellent in stores.
Store this bug repellent cream in an air tight container until time for use. This is perfectly safe for use on any skin type. That includes babies, toddler and children! Without the harsh chemicals, you don’t have to be afraid of your kids coming in contact with this product on their skin. The all natural ingredients are not only safe for external use, they won’t cause a problem should a little child lick their skin after having applied it. While not common, we do realize kids tend to cause some fear factors, so we want to make sure parents know this is a great natural, frugal and totally safe option.
